Q. Why can't I log into the library databases from off-campus?

Why can't I log into the library databases from off-campus? Before the COVID-19 crisis, when I was off-campus and tried to log into databases on the library website (like EBSCO, WorldCat, ProQuest, etc.), I'd get prompted for my Husky Single Sign On. Now I'm getting various error messages instead of the SSO prompt, telling me I don't have access. What is going on?

Answer

The fact that you previously had access from the library website but now do not indicates you may be using University's VPN. Using a VPN on the internet changes your IP address so that database vendors will not recognize you as coming from an authorized IP address. The fix is simple -- disconnect from the VPN whenever you use the library databases.

If you are not connected to the University's VPN and are unable to login, then make sure to use the database links on the Library's A-Z Database website: https://guides.library.bloomu.edu/az.php

Only currently affiliated University students, faculty, and staff may access the library's databases, because of licensing.
